Senior Picture Checklist for Girls: What to Bring to Your Senior Photos
Not sure what to bring to senior pictures? A little senior photo preparation can make your session feel easier, more relaxed, and much more enjoyable.
The good news? You don't need to bring your entire closet. A few thoughtfully chosen outfits, the right shoes and accessories, and a small touch-up bag are usually all you need for beautiful, natural senior photos.
I've put together this senior picture checklist for girls to help you know exactly what to pack before your session. (printable jpeg/pdf @ bottom of post)

What to Bring to Senior Pictures
Bring 2–4 Complete Outfits
When planning what to bring to senior pictures, think about variety rather than quantity. A few outfits with different colors, textures, and styles will give your gallery plenty of variety without making your session feel like a wardrobe change marathon.
I typically recommend bringing a mix of:
- A casual outfit that feels like your everyday style
- A dressier outfit
- A favorite outfit that makes you feel confident
- An optional outfit that shows your personality, interests, or the season
And remember to bring the entire outfit—top, bottoms, shoes, jewelry, and accessories—so you can see how everything works together.
Make Sure Your Clothes Fit Well
This is one of the most important parts of senior photo preparation.
Choose clothing that fits comfortably and allows you to move. Avoid anything that is so tight you're constantly adjusting it or so oversized that it overwhelms you in photographs.
Also consider the length of your clothing. If you're wearing a dress or skirt, make sure it's long enough for you to sit, walk, and move comfortably without constantly worrying about it being too short.
If you're bringing a fitted top, dress, or jumpsuit, try it on ahead of time and move around in it. You'll be much more comfortable during your senior pictures if you aren't spending the entire session pulling, tugging, or adjusting your clothes.
Think About Undergarments, Too
This is an easy detail to overlook—and one that can make a big difference in photographs.
Choose undergarments that work with each outfit. Check necklines, straps, back openings, and lighter-colored clothing before your session.
No one wants to discover halfway through their senior photo session that a bra strap is showing or that the wrong undergarments are visible in an otherwise beautiful outfit.
If you're unsure, bring a few options so you have choices.

Don't Forget Your Shoes
Your shoes are part of the outfit, so don't leave them sitting at home.
Bring shoes that coordinate with each outfit, whether that's sneakers, boots, sandals, heels, or dress shoes. If we're photographing outdoors, you may also want a comfortable pair of shoes for walking between locations.
For Michigan senior pictures, especially sessions in fields, flower gardens, parks, or natural locations like Kensington Metropark, Island Lake Recreation Area, or Gallup Park in Ann Arbor, comfortable shoes can be especially helpful between portraits. You can always change into your photo shoes once we reach the spot where we're shooting.
Bring Accessories That Feel Like You
Accessories can completely change the look of an outfit and add personality to your senior photos.
Consider bringing jewelry, a favorite necklace, earrings, rings, bracelets, a hat, sunglasses, a hair accessory, or even a meaningful piece that has a story behind it.
You don't need to bring everything. Choose pieces you actually wear and love.
Bring Something That Tells Your Story
Your senior pictures don't have to look like everyone else's.
If there's something important to you, consider bringing it along. That might be a letter jacket, college sweatshirt, musical instrument, flowers, a favorite book, a Bible, something connected to a hobby, or an item that represents what you're hoping to do after graduation.
The goal isn't to fill your senior session with props. It's to include a few meaningful details that help tell the story of who you are right now.
Hair & Makeup Touch-Ups
Even if you're having your hair and makeup professionally done, bring a few products for touch-ups throughout your session.
A small bag with a brush or comb, hair ties, bobby pins, hairspray, lip color, powder or blotting papers, and any other products you may need can be helpful.
And if you're doing your own hair and makeup, give yourself plenty of time. Senior photo preparation shouldn't feel rushed.
Avoid making major changes right before your session, too. Your senior pictures should look like you, just your very best and most confident self.

Preparing for Outdoor Senior Pictures in Michigan
Many of my senior photography sessions take place outdoors, and the location can influence what you'll want to bring. A senior session in downtown Brighton may call for a different pair of shoes than a session through the fields and trails of Kensington Metropark, Island Lake Recreation Area, or Gallup Park in Ann Arbor.
If you're traveling from South Lyon, Howell, Milford, Brighton, Ann Arbor, or another Metro Detroit community, I'll help you plan for the location we've chosen—including what to wear, what shoes make sense, and what to bring along.
Don't Forget Bug Spray!
If you're having Michigan senior pictures taken outdoors during the warmer months, especially in fields, flower-filled areas, forests, or tall grass, bug spray is absolutely worth packing.
Locations such as Kensington Metropark in Milford, Island Lake Recreation Area near Brighton and South Lyon, or Gallup Park in Ann Arbor offer beautiful natural settings for senior portraits—but being surrounded by Michigan's summer greenery also means mosquitoes and other insects can be part of the experience.
Before heading into a field or wooded area for your senior photos, apply bug spray and bring it along for a quick refresh if needed. You'll be much more comfortable enjoying your outdoor senior photography session in Michigan when you're not spending your time swatting mosquitoes.
Christie's Tip: If we're photographing in a field, flowers, or tall grass, bring bug spray even if you don't think you'll need it. Future-you will thank you.
What to Bring Based on Your Senior Picture Location
Your senior photo preparation can look a little different depending on where we're photographing.
Fields, flowers & tall grass: Comfortable walking shoes, bug spray, and clothing that allows you to move easily are especially helpful.
Forested locations: Bring shoes you don't mind wearing on natural trails and consider bringing bug spray during Michigan's warmer months.
Waterfront locations: Bring a backup outfit or extra layer if we're near the water, especially during cooler mornings or evenings.
Downtown Brighton or Ann Arbor: You may want an additional pair of shoes if your outfit calls for heels or dressier footwear but we'll be walking between locations.
Whether your senior photos take place in Brighton, Ann Arbor, South Lyon, Farmington, Milford, Howell, or another Metro Detroit location, I'll help you plan what makes sense for your session.

A Few Other Things to Pack
You don't need a huge session bag, but a few practical items can save the day:
- Water
- A small snack
- Deodorant
- Tissues
- Lint roller
- Safety pins
- Fashion tape
- Hairbrush or comb
- Touch-up makeup
- Comfortable shoes for walking
Think of it as your little senior photo emergency kit. You probably won't need everything—but you'll be glad it's there if you do.
Senior Photo Preparation: The Night Before
The easiest way to make your senior photography session feel stress-free is to prepare the night before.
Steam or iron your outfits, check that your shoes are clean, gather your jewelry and accessories, and pack everything together. Look at the weather forecast and make sure you have anything you'll need for an outdoor session.
Most importantly, give yourself time to relax and get a good night's sleep.
You don't need to show up looking "perfect." You just need to show up feeling comfortable, confident, and ready to have fun.
Ready for Your Senior Pictures?
I've created a printable Senior Picture Checklist for Girls to make packing even easier. Save it to your phone or print it out and check things off as you prepare for your session.
And remember: the goal isn't to bring the most outfits or the most props. It's to bring the pieces that feel like you.
Your senior pictures should capture more than what you looked like during your senior year. They should capture a little bit of who you were, what you loved, and the person you were becoming.
